Night Picnic In The City

Despite the busyness, the fast pace of life, the hectic day to day schedule, I was informed of a friend’s arrival to Singapore last weekend. That weekend coincided with the person’s birthday as well. Oh gosh.

Having only a few days, I scrambled to get the planning in place and I was thinking of doing something a little different. The norm would be to book a table at a restaurant somewhere, order a cake and have people sing the typical ‘Happy Birthday’ song to the birthday person. It is cliché, expected and well, the easiest way for me.

This time, I tried to make a bit of an effort. I wanted my friend to be surprised and at the same time see the beauty of Singapore, our very own Garden City by night. I remember seeing Syafiqah’s (a lady I met during Aere’s styling session) Instagram of how she did a surprise birthday for her loved ones. Great idea indeed. Ok, I know I am not being original here but I do have a whole lot of other matters to look into.

I supposed I was really lucky. I managed to engage Pitch Nique and begged them to accept my super late booking request. I was pretty indecisive. I had a lot of questions, uncertainties, I was worried about the weather and many more. Only on the morning of the birthday did I remember some stuff and immediately requested for additional items. Seriously, I do not think I am an easy to deal with customer.

But lo and behold, when I arrived at the designated venue of the birthday-surprise-slash-night-picnic event, I think my heart skipped a beat. The setup done by Pitch Nique was ah-mazing. To be perfectly honest, I was not expecting much given my last minute situation and request. But we were all pleasantly surprised at the outcome of the setup. It was a simple yet elegant setup with a multi-million dollar view of the Singapore skyline. It certainly exceeded my expectation.

Look, they even prepared back-up wet weather plans. In case it rains, there are raincoats and an umbrella to keep us dry while walking in the rain to seek shelter.

With such an elegant setting, a great view and the pleasure of an even wonderful company, it was indeed a beautiful evening for us. We had a lot to talk about. We talked about the night picnic-slash-birthday-surprise. The funny moments of our past, our impossible dreams, our future goals and how we each plan to work towards them. It was funny. It was filled with lots of laugh. It was nice. My friend is a naturally funny person and I too, am funny, obviously. So we were laughing the entire time we were there. It certainly was a beautiful friendship. Hopefully one day in the future, we can always look back to this very night and always keep smiling.

There were some people who were walking alone who happened to see us sitting and talking. Some looked for quite a while to make sure we were probably REAL people sitting there. Some looked over a few times. I know I would probably do the same.

Despite the last minute planning, everything was absolutely perfect. I wish there would many days and night such as this very night. But to think about it, there can be, just a choice of how we want things to be. And it can happen. To many many more of this beautiful moments in life.

Boost Of Positivity

Work has been occupying a lot of my time. This happens a lot all year round. I am not complaining. I try my best to be more organised, rub on tonnes of essential oils on myself early in the morning. I would usually read up on their uses before I get them. I look out for oils which are mainly for me to overcome my procrastination.

I think that is one of my biggest flaw. I envy people who super productive in their daily lives. I am not just talking about already super successful idols, but people who are stay at home moms, juggling their roles at home and ensuring they can provide the best for their kids. Individuals who try their utter best to make a significant difference to the world, and many more. I look them up, read up about them and their lives. I would also get books to inspire me to not procrastinate.

Frankly, these efforts do help. I do feel inspired when I read about Stanford University students generate income from $5 worth of 'seed funding' and yet not even using that money at all. Of course, I am nowhere near to those geniuses who made the cut to be in there. I also admire how youths choose to be different and think outside the box. I also found and experiment some interesting oils from Young Living to get my mood at the very start of the day going. When the oils are out of their final drop, I would experiment with the others which is intended to kick my procrastination mood and lift my spirit at the very start of the day. So far, it has been going well.

What is even better is the fact that I am not with any partner who constantly gives me major headache and who are not problem solvers, but instead, are the catalyst to negativity and creators to the chaos in my life. Major PHEWWWW.

So today, I was in need for a boost of positivity. I opened up my wardrobe and immediately fell in love with this new top from Love To Dress and I matched it with my World Map dUCk scarf in Vintage. And just like that, everything fell into place. So easy, right? If only every morning struggle is this easy.

Then again, why the heck not?

Let's see if daily choice of the dUCk scarves will keep the positivity rolling in always? Maybe I'll record this moment on my instagram.

Rest

Recently, Marliana recommended a book she was reading during her leave. The book title was Rest by Alex Soojung-Kim Pang. It was not those typical books that tells you the importance for the body to have ample rest. Instead, Alex highlighted that we should not take serious rest lightly. it could actually do us a whole lot of good.

For most of us, we only learn to lean back only as we matured. Fact is, rest is the complement of work and rest actually completes us. When we REALLY rest, that is when we rediscover our creative side and sometimes, feel that urge to WANT to get back to work and get our ideas back on the drawing board and work on it.

Today, I decided to use that little bit of knowledge I learned from the reading that I did yesterday. I supposed I really did rest yesterday and today I was out wanting and dying to be creative and show off my creativity.

The result you may ask?

Ta-daaa... Of course, it had to be with a dUCk box. Since Singapore celebrated her 52nd birthday yesterday, this truly is apt, featuring the Singapore dUCk! What can I say? I love my country!

Just one day of relaxation and this is what I could produce. Imagine my capabilities when I go on sabbatical leave. I guess now I am looking forward to the next long block leave again, to recharge and be amazing again. Now I truly cannot wait.
